My name is Malena Gonzalez and I am an Interactive Design Instructor in the Interactive Media Arts (IMA) program at Assiniboine Community College (ACC). I currently teach front-end development, visual design, communication courses and I coordinate/facilitate/mentor capstone projects for the interactive part of the program.
As I am in the technology field and my specialization comes down in user interface (UX) interaction/design and client communications, I created online courses to deliver content for the students, since I came to teach in the program in 2009.
I have used different tools to digitalize information and processes to enhance communication within the program and also in the current courses I teach. This year I took the job to transfer all the material I had in different apps and website into ONE application - Moodle, as this is now the “approved” online digital tool for ACC. Since then, I have worked closely with the Centre for Learning and Innovation (CLI) at ACC to add more functionality and enhance the user experience in the online courses.
I am always eager to find out new ways of doing things, how people are using technology to see how can I incorporate this into the classroom, as I understand that technology is in our everyday life and we need to teach the students to treat technology with respect and using this medium in a responsible and mature manner.
Before I decided to become an Instructor for ACC, I worked for an international software development company based in Calgary. I was in charge of some international clients, whom I overseen and got requirements for software personalization, process digitalization and required training. Digital strategies were important during training delivery, as most of our clients were around the world and on-site training could be expensive and difficult sometimes. Providing training session to learn the software was one of the areas I was responsible, which lead me to pursue further a career in education.
Online strategies or solutions are of great interest to me. I like helping other instructors to adopt technology and implement it in an efficient manner. This has been a strong interest in my personal development within ACC and hoping I can pursue these interests more and have the opportunity to learn new ways to do things.
I love reading, traveling, road trips, food, hiking, climbing and spending time with family and friends.
